OVERVIEW
Seat chart generator is one of gadgets on 1Campus. When a new semester starts, classroom instructors need to rearrange their students seats. It tool is helping them make it done as soon as possible!
BACKGROUND
Different from the school in the USA, students in Taiwan have a certain classroom and classmates to stay with for 3 years or even as long as 6 years. Then, generating seats could be a big project for the classroom teacher. Some teachers only do this once a semester, but some do more than 3 times a semester. This gadget aims to help speed up its process.
Now, we have some Optimizations to do for making it better to use!
RESEARCH
Before designing, I first start by learning what the purpose of seat chart is, familiar with the operation, and seeking problems with it. Then, I started to collect users' feedback and what challenges they were facing while using this gadget. Then, I found these problems.
PAinpoints
● To set all the seat chart done, it requires a lot of unnecessary repetitive actions.
● It's very difficult to see the whole seat chart on web view, so teacher easily get lost when they were trying to arrange a seat.
● Teacher only can have one version of seat chart during a semester. It's a big problem for those teachers who rearrange seats several time in a semester.
● It's very difficult to exchange seats between two students in a small area by dragging and moving a student card.
Solution
I wanted all teachers never lost in the seat chart anymore. I started to analyze the seat chart on the movie ticket booking online system and also the system of booking musical ticket online. I saw they all had a little map to help users know which row they were at. I think it would be a good method to solve the problem. We also let teachers save different versions of the seat chart. Last, we use another method to replace dragging for movement by clicking a student card and popping up students list, then clicking a student to switch.
Design methods used during the project included researching, competitive analysis, user flow, wireframing, prototyping, Internal staff testing, and user testing solutions.
This new seat chart had been helping teachers save a lot of time. Majority of teachers do not get lost in the chart.
